Erin Ferguson

Who would've thought that a simple bicycle purchase, and a chance encounter 10 years ago would change the direction of my life.  Back then, my idea of a bike ride was a leisurely ride down the TART trail. Then, I was introduced to the world of racing by working at the Iceman.  My competitive fire that I nurtured in team sports growing up, had been rekindled.

I couldn't live in a more perfect place to learn the fine art of bike racing, and eventually triathlon, which has taken me places I never could have dreamed.  I love being able to ride out from my back door and be in one of the most beautiful places in America.  I love the rush of cresting a hill and seeing the lakes, orchards, and sometimes wildlife that most people miss while sitting in a car.  Being part of Team Hagerty has heightened the exhilaration.  I learn something new every ride, and being part of a team of some of the most exceptional athletes in the region pushes me in ways I never thought possible and am proud to call such like minded people, friends.

My specialty is triathlon.  I have been participating in tris for the last 9 years, but competing in them really only for the last 2, when I was finally able to put the pieces together.  I had my best season ever last summer with podium finishes at most races.  Last year was also my proudest race (so far) in my career, when I was able to compete for Team USA in the Long Course Triathlon World Championships in Sweden.  I qualified again for Team USA this year, which will be held in Oklahoma City in September.

My race season is just getting started as I come off a personal best 1/2 marathon time this past weekend in Marquette, at the Hope Starts Here Challenge (May 7).
